so we are now into week 2 here in Brazil. today we are shooting in the rural area of Colonia about 1 1/2 hours outside Rio. It is also where the mental institution is located although compared to some of our crew everyone acts pretty normal. The set is situated in the jungle which is filled with mosquitoes and ticks among other things. Factor in the extreme heat and humidity, the occasional downpour, 300 hundred crew members, hundred extras, 4 cameras, cranes, huge lighting set ups, a language barrier and the merging of two completely different ways of working (US vs Brazil) you could have a recipe for disaster. Bu we don’t, thanks to Sly and his total command of the set along with the total professionalism of the cast. No whiners on this film thank God. Today is pretty cool – barney Ross (SLY) and Lee Christmas (JASON) ambush some of Garza’s (DAVID ZAYES) henchmen and all hell breaks loose. I am really impressed with Giselle Itie – she is perfect for the role of Sandra. Then there’s the p’razzi who are literally hanging out of the tress in the mountains trying to get a shot. One guy told me he can shoot wherever he likes cause he is a photographic lawyer. I told him I was a ballerina…that’s it for now. stay tuned

today was one of those days when you realize just how BIG this film is. With 2 units shooting, 300 crew members, half who speak only Portuguese, car stunt, Statham hanging out of a plane, explosives, hundred extras and 85 degree heat with 85% humidity. But through it all Sly has kept his cool while acting, directing and tweaking lines with his cast. Thank God tomorrow is all on a process trailer!! Then we head back to Rio to get into the meat of the action – Sly has written and Chad out stunt coordinator has choreographed a freakin amazing battle. I’ve worked on a few action films (T3, Collateral Damage,Eraser, Sixth Day) but I can tell you THIS IS BIG!! it is also the biggest film ever shot in Brazil (The Hulk doesn’t count). It is clear the village of Mangaratiba will never be the same. they have been very gracious as we took over the town but as I said before this is the biggest thing to happen here… ever. So I will be quiet for the next 3 days to regroup and relax. It has been non-stop since we landed 8 days ago. Ciao for now.
Today I was attacked by Jason Statham (Lee Christmas) firing a machine gun from a dive-bombing fighter plane, nearly burned alive by napalm and had to leap into the freezing Bay of Mangaratiba to save my ass. And how was your day???
wow this has been crazy. Yesterday we went to a Mangarathiba, small fishing village about 2 hours outside of Rio. Sly set up the first shot for tomorrow (Monday) our first day of shooting. The whole town turned out to greet him. I’m told it’s the biggest thing to happen in the village since – well, since ever! When the stunt seaplane flew over the crowd at a VERY LOW altitude, they began cheering. Sly then walked over to the crowd to take photos, signs autographs and shake hands. Chaos ensued! Back to Rio where he was mobbed as he tried to enter the hotel. 300 fans chanting ROCKY ROCKY ROCKY in Portuguese was pretty interesting. Meanwhile out at the airport Jason Statham required a police escort just to get out of the airport. Speaking of airport one interesting observation – I didn’t see many shops but they do have a dentist office. In fact the city is filled with dentist offices so now I am obsessed with looking at everyone;s teeth. Maybe the heat has gotten to me…ciao for now
