so here we are with only 4 days of shooting left before we wrap it up and head back to our lives. I’m feeling a little melancholy as I usually do when a film draws to a close but for some reason I’m really feeling it on this one. It has been such a cool experience being a part of this film and working with this amazing cast and crew. But it aint over til its over and we still have a whole lot of stuff to do…Jason throwing knives and kicking an interloper’s ass on a basketball court, a car crash in a warehouse somewhere in NOLA with Dolph and Sly and a church with or without the character Church. On Thursday July 2 at 5:30pm I bid adieu to the Crescent City and along with Miss Sadie head back to Hermosa Beach.
last week was a busy one – Harry Knowles visited the set on Wednesday. I’d never met him before but I do read AICN on a daily basis. So when he came rolling in with his dad for some reason I was prepared for a high maintenance night. Thanks for the nice surprise, Harry. He was the prefect guest – he wasn’t interested in the traditional interview with the actors but I wish I had taped the conversations he had with Dolph, Jason, Sly etc…all Harry wanted to do was soak it in and as you can tell from his post he was like a sponge!! And he didn’t rat me out when I scraped the side of the golf cart as I drove through the metal doors leading to the palace courtyard set. So thanks for that!! The next night we had journalists from Japan, Holland, France, the UK, IGN, UGO and the Times Picayune visit…once again great people who asked good questions and were very patient. Being on a set usually means a lot of sitting around waiting…or eating…and they did both. At around 3am they finally got their interviews with Sly, Jet, Terry, Dolph and Randy. too bad Jason had already left. at any rate…busy week as I also did interviews with most of the cast that will be used for media outreach as well as on the DVD. I used some of the questions submitted by fans – it was a fun and interesting process to hear the guys talk about their characters, about working together as an ensemble, Sly as a director and the process as a whole. Gave me a whole new perspective while reminding me of things I had forgotten…and in spite of all the bitching I’ve done over the past 3 months about heat, bugs, rain, gators and whatever, I’ve had a pretty amazing experience.
last night we said good bye to Jet and Giselle. felt damn weird. What can I say about Jet…he’s Jet Li – an amazing human being who is dedicating his life to making the world a better place. His ONE FOUNDATION is his focus now and we all wish him the best. As for Giselle, The Expendables marks her debut in a US film. Being the only female in a testosterone fueled environment was no easy task but aside from her stunning beauty she is a very strong and powerful force. She does things in this film that will certainly make film goers take notice. She became my closest confident on this film – she will be missed.
Ok now for Church…I saw on several websites that it is Bruce Willis but as I write this nothing has been confirmed about who will play Church. Someone PLEASE make a decision here people!!!
so here I sit on the back lot of the studio while fires rage, Sly shoots the hell out of things and Randy Couture stealthily takes out a few palace guards. Terry is here too but hasn’t worked yet. Looks like Randy and Terry will wrap up tonight or tomorrow..then Steve Austin and Eric. Last to go will be Jason who is with us til the bitter end which is only fitting as he was was in the first scene we shot so many weeks ago…
Earlier today on splinter unit Steve Austin and Eric Roberts went swimming – blown into the water by a huge explosion. The first part of the scene was shot in Brazil – today we shot the aftermath. Ah movie magic.
factoid…we shot the title sequence for the film tonight – the song playing during the scene has lyrics by Sly and music and additional lyrics by one of the guys from Godsmack…I think it was Sully but haven’t had a chance to confirm with Sly…so please don’t quote me. What I do know is the song is pretty freakin perfect…
that’s it for now…I have about 3000 photos to go through but didn’t want you to think I forgot about you…
RIP Farrah – you fought a brave fight. And MIchael Jackson…you were one crazy mother towards the end but your music will never be forgotten…sad ending to an even sadder life…ah fame and fortune…

Sly should have casted some other actor to play Church at the first sign of “trouble” (meaning: the rumored scheduling problems of Willis). After all, the part is not that significant or big so they could have brought Willis for the sequel (which is always a possibility) and gotten an actor to play Church who is “free”.
Not gonna list any names because there has already been many lists of actors who they could have hired.
At this point I personally think they are going to delete the character from the script.
Anyhow, the film is going to be wrapped soon and then begins the waiting of a teaser trailer etc.

I don’t think Sly is done with the film completely after filming in NOLA, they need to film the Arnold scene in L.A. which Church is supposed to be in too. I’m sure Sly’s already has an actor for Church, he is being VERY secretive about it. He’s not letting us know until the time is right.

I’m super stoked about this film, and always love checkin’ back here for updates.. the chance of seeing FINALLY my two movie hero’s ARNOLD & SLY on screen together for the first time is just awesome!! I only hope that Arnold’s scene isnt too brief, and would personally prefer the more action character route rather than playing himself. This has to be the greatest cast ever assembled, even beatin’ likes of Ocean’s remake and cannonball Run’s. What would complete this for me though would be to have my ultimate favorite band in the world, my hero’s, mentors, etc..lol be on the soundtrack, and that would be.. METALLICA!! How awesome would that be, THAT CAST & METALLICA both kickin’ ass in synch!! something off Death Magnetic would suit, either Judas Kiss or My Apocalypse! Awesome, so Sly please consider this idea for soundtrack bud, lol. ROCK ON! bring on the release of this future classic!

Thanks for the update!! I have been anxiously waiting for a new post. I bet it is sad to be ending such an awesome experience. I want to know what you think of our wonderful state! Did you enjoy the food, the scenery (minus the heat & bugs), the hospitality, etc? What did some of the other cast and crew members think of NOLA and Louisiana? I wish it would have worked out that I could have met you in person and seen some of the filming, but your blog and twitter have given me great insight into what I didn’t get to see firsthand. I want to thank you for that. I hope you keep giving us updates until the movie is released. Thank you Sheryl for this blog, keep the fans informed about the filming of this movie which is sure to make a grand entry next year.
I would also like to thank you for giving us fans a chance to voice our thoughts, especially the chance for me to inform you and others about my audition. Now, I understand that this might not have been the proper channel but I have gained three supporters from doing so and please only see it as a way of me “knocking on the door”. As a way of me taking the chance and putting myself out there. Please only see it as that.
I will never forget the advice you have given two posts prior, Sheryl!
That being said, since the film is about to wrap up, do you think you can mention to Mr. Stallone about my video? There is nothing that can be done now, maybe Mr. Stallone might enjoy it.

As Steve says, Sly might really enjoy it and it is Expendable related! Plus there are some cool pictures of Sly, Jason, Jet, Terry and the rest at the end with an awesome font, Steve you gotta tell me what font that is.

A female Church is not a bad idea, I think Sly wanted that character for a man to play though…but Church being a woman is interesting.

1) Paul, I agree as well. Linda Hamilton as Church, or Jamie Lee. I suspect Church will be with Arnold so it would be great seeing Arnold film his scenes with either of the two.
2) Steve, brother, like Paul you have my support in anything you do. I also believe you have a serious talent that needs to be pursued. Keep in touch, Steve.
3) Sheryl, thank you for this blog keeping the fans up to date with what’s going on with the production of this movie. Huge thank you, Ms. Sheryl.
4) Also Sheryl, I too also would like say that if maybe you could mention to Stallone about Steve’s audition. It is the end, the wrap up is just about done, why not? Again to take a phrase from Paul, there is no harm. Maybe Stallone can keep Steve in mind for future endeavors, and he should! I also believe that Steve has a talent which Stallone can mold to paraphrase Paul again.

Haven’t you all thought of Talia Shire being “Expendable”? Maybe this could be the reason Sly is being secretive about Church ’cause what if he got a former Rocky star to play the character. Church could be Talia, Burt Young (Uncle Paulie) or Carl Weathers. Think about it!!! Hello Sheryl..in your “light of the end of the tunnel” comments, you mentioned a possible with or without a “Church” character…does that mean that Sly is considering deleting that character altoghter?? Well, I read that he deleted the Brittany Murphy character..for whatever reason, so do you think he will do the same w/the Church character?
I really hope not, only considering that it would be an opportunity for Bruce Willis or another cool actor to play that part.

Arnold was never part of principal photography. His scene was always scheduled shoot in LA on a day convenient for him. As for Church, that scene will be shot on a future date as well – possibly on the east coast.

Thanks for everything. I have enjoy everything you have done, especially in helping me see Sly in person at cp. That is a nite I will never forgot. We will meet again and I will get my picture, because I never give up on dreams that will come true one day.
Glad to see Sly was considering a woman as Church from the first draft. Stick with the though. He needs a big twist & she would be it. She should be a sweet, loving person someone you would never except to turn against them. Someone everyone loves (Reese Witherspoon, Ann Hathaway?). All the above mention ladies would be great but they are to old, when the other young ladies are the girlfriends of the characters. Just a note on the comment, I am the same age as some of these ladies some are older but there is a reason for this. Sly already has my age group f/m because the action names in the movie, the younger ladies are attracted to Jason & Jet, but what about the younger men, who do they have??? The movie is lacking that one big female name to get guys wondering how she fits into this type of movie. I know Sly can write this twist into a one of a kind movie that everyone will talk about for a long time.

I disagree that Sly should play in Robert Rodriguez’s “Predators” movie. From the sounds of things, it looks like Robert is trying to bring back Arnold as Dutch in the lead, once Arny gets done being governor.
As for Sly’s next movie after “Expendables”, I want to see him get the opportunity to direct the biopic for Michael Jackson. I think Sly would do a great job if he did the Michael Jackson biopic. Michael himself would have wanted Sly to do it since they were friends for a long time. That be sweet.

If Sly was asked to do an MJ biopic, I’m pretty sure Sly would jump right on the opportunity. Kepp in mind about what a biopic movie does is about a famous person’s life, meaning they will have to do everything about his life, even MJ’s dark side of things.
The MJ biopic will not be just about his music career, I’m sure his child molestation trial, the lawsuits, losing Neverland, etc. will all be in his biopic film. You have to think about that. The MJ biopic shouldn’t be just about his music career, there needs to be his dark and weird personal life into the movie too just to make the film intense and create drama, kind of like the movie “Ray” that starred Jamie Foxx and “Walk the Line” with Joaquin Phoenix as Johnny Cash.
There will be an MJ biopic planned by Hollywood, everyone knows it. Hollywood studios are waiting for this funeral stuff of MJ to get over with for material of the MJ biopic. Then they will plan one.
I totally disagree with you that no one would see the MJ biopic film. Knowing that Michael Jackson is everywhere now and so popular, of course his biopic will be very successful and will be a box office smash. This will be a good opportunity for Sly Stallone.

MJ’s plastic surgery transformation, his trial, Neverland, lawsuits, family, etc, all of that needs to be in the film. You may think Sly will never make a Michael Jackson biopic, but I think it be a cool thing that he would. I just made a simple suggestion in the comments that Sly would do a Michael Jackson biopic as a fun discussion and you came in here lashing out at me, over my opinion, so I responded back.
